The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy of Iran has warned that every US military vessel or that of its allies transiting the Strait of Hormuz will become a target. Iran will attack US ships and those of its allies in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Al-Jazeera reporting on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, these comments emerged following earlier claims by US Energy Secretary Chris Wright that the US Navy had escorted an oil tanker through the strait, a post he subsequently removed from X.

“Claims about an oil tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz with US military escort are entirely false. Every voyage by the US fleet and its allies will be stopped by Iranian missiles and suicide drones,” said IRGC Navy commander Alireza Tangsiri.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister stated that the US was “spreading false news” about the Strait of Hormuz to manipulate the financial market.

The X post by Abbas Araghchi appeared after the US withdrew claims that one of its warships had escorted an energy tanker through the Strait of Hormuz that day.

“US officials are spreading false news to manipulate markets. This will not protect them from the inflation tsunami they have inflicted upon the American people,” wrote Iran’s Foreign Minister.

“Markets are facing the largest shortage in history: larger than the Arab Oil Embargo, the Islamic Revolution of Iran, and the combined invasion of Kuwait,” he concluded.
