US Military Says Strait of Hormuz Remains Open

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, with commercial shipping traffic through the waterway continuing to increase. “Safe passage through this international waterway remains maintained today with 55 merchant vessels transiting, carrying large amounts of cargo and more than 17 million barrels of oil to global markets,” CENTCOM said in a statement. “US forces remain present and vigilant to ensure all aspects of the agreement with Iran are observed, complied with, and fully enforced,” the statement read. US Vice President JD Vance told Fox News on Saturday that Washington sees no evidence Iran is still attempting to close the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the country’s main military command, announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, citing US violations of a newly signed peace memorandum of understanding and Israel’s breach of the ceasefire in southern Lebanon, as reported by Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency.
