US Military Assets Targeted by Iranian Kamikaze Drones

The Iranian military has stated it targeted US military communications systems and fuel storage facilities in Jordan using suicide (kamikaze) drones. The attack, reported by state television IRIB on Thursday (16/7), was described as a response to the latest wave of American strikes against Iran. No immediate reports on damage or casualties from the drone assault were provided.

On Wednesday night, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces had completed a fresh wave of strikes against Iran, hitting multiple locations including targets in Bandar Abbas, home to Iran’s largest port and a key naval and Revolutionary Guard facility. CENTCOM specified that US forces struck coastal defence and cruise missile sites on Greater Tunb Island during the 90-minute operation.

In a sharp escalation of rhetoric, a spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Military Headquarters warned that if the US targets Iranian infrastructure, the Islamic Republic will respond by destroying all infrastructure in the region. The spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaqari, declared that the Strait of Hormuz is a ‘red line’ for Iran and vowed that any American aggression would be met with superior and more destructive attacks.

Separately, the public relations department of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that its naval forces had launched a ‘devastating attack’ on the US base at Sheikh Isa in Bahrain. The IRGC asserted that the operation completely destroyed the base’s air surveillance and control radar systems, as well as a fuel pumping station used to supply enemy fighter jets.
