US Military Allows Iranian Missiles and Drones to Pass as Ammunition Stocks Dwindle

The United States military has reportedly started allowing some Iranian missiles and drones to pass through without being intercepted. This tactical shift is a result of the dwindling supply of US air defence ammunition, according to a report by NBC News citing multiple US government sources.

Two senior US officials confirmed that military commanders are now permitting some Iranian attack missiles and drones to penetrate the air defence shield in order to conserve the shrinking stockpile of interceptor missiles. However, all aerial targets deemed to pose a threat to the safety of US military personnel are still guaranteed to be intercepted. Conversely, in some cases, projectiles heading towards areas without US personnel are allowed to pass, despite the risk of damaging base infrastructure.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz strongly denied the reports of Washington’s dwindling ammunition supplies. In an interview with NBC News on Sunday, Waltz urged the public not to believe such reports and stated that whoever leaked the classified military information should be put in prison.

Previously, CBS reported that President Donald Trump’s administration was concerned about the high rate of US weapons usage in the field. The report also mentioned that Trump decided to postpone plans for a significant escalation of military operations against Iran. The delay was attributed to concerns that a prolonged conflict would further deplete reserves of Patriot interceptor missiles and other strategic air defence ammunition in the Middle East region.
