The head of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), Brad Cooper, has accused Iranian attacks of increasingly targeting civilians across the region. Cooper stated that the reason is Iran’s desperation as its military capabilities deteriorate.

“They are operating out of desperation… In recent weeks, they have deliberately attacked civilian targets more than 300 times,” he told the UK-based Iran International channel, as reported by Al Jazeera on Monday (23/3/2026).

Cooper also pointed out that “at the beginning of the conflict, you saw a large volume of dozens of drones and missiles. You no longer see that. It’s all one or two at a time.”

The US administration stated that Iran’s firing capacity has dramatically decreased. In the first week of March, the Pentagon said missile launches had dropped 90 percent from the first day of fighting and drone attacks had fallen 86 percent.

Additionally, the US military said it had targeted a turbine engine production site in Qom province, central northern Iran, used for components of drones and aircraft related to the IRGC.

In a post on X, CENTCOM stated: “The Qom Turbine Engine Production Factory produces gas turbine engines for attack drones and aircraft components used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.”

CENTCOM shared before-and-after images of the strike on the site, with a photo dated 6 March 2026 showing the facility intact, and a second image taken three days later apparently showing severe damage following a US airstrike.
