US Midterms: Trump Promises US$5,000 to Every Citizen if Republicans Control Congress

US President Donald Trump has launched an ambitious political promise ahead of the mid-term elections scheduled for 3 November. Trump has promised to provide cash payments of US$5,000 (approximately Rp87.56 million) to every adult citizen in the United States.

Trump made this pledge in front of his supporters during a Republican Party campaign event in Texas. However, the realisation of these payments depends on the election results, specifically requiring the Republican Party to successfully seize control of both legislative chambers in the US Congress: the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“If the Republican Party wins the US House of Representatives and the Senate, both of them, then I will give US$5,000 to every adult citizen in the United States,” Trump stated, as reported by Sputnik/RIA Novosti-OANA.

Trump’s move is viewed as an attempt to boost party popularity amidst difficult predictions for the Republican camp. Analysts predict that the Republican Party faces the risk of losing control of the US House of Representatives, with the Democratic Party expected to have a significant chance of taking over the lower house in the upcoming midterms.

A decline in the approval rating of the Trump administration is a primary factor. Experts link this negative trend to military actions against Iran and the surge in domestic prices that is burdening the American public.

Trump himself openly acknowledged the possibility of the Republican Party losing control of the House. He even predicted that if the Democrats succeed in controlling Parliament, they will immediately attempt to initiate impeachment proceedings against him.
