US Media Report: Russian Intelligence Behind Iran's Missiles and Drones’ Striking Accuracy
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHERAN – A Washington Post report carried by Anadolu on Friday (6 March 2026) revealed that Russia has been providing intelligence information to Iran regarding points of United States military assets in the Middle East. That is why Iran’s missiles and drones to date have been very accurate in striking the American military assets they target. An anonymous Washington Post source said that Russia has been providing information since the war began last Saturday, including locations of U.S. assets, such as ships and bombers parked. ‘It looks like a fairly comprehensive aid effort,’ one source said. The purpose of Russia helping Iran with intelligence information remains unclear. Meanwhile, another source said Iran’s own ability to track the U.S. armed forces had been degraded less than a week after the war broke out. Another source suggested that Russia was affected by assistance from Iran in obtaining and sharing information related to Ukraine. ‘I think they are very pleased (with Iran’s help) and are trying to return the favour,’ the source said. It was reported that six U.S. service members were killed and several others injured in drone strikes by Iran in Kuwait last Sunday. Iran has launched thousands of drone strikes and hundreds of missiles at U.S. military bases, the embassy, and civilian property as retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday (28 Feb 2026). Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly claimed that Iran had suffered a significant defeat, but she did not address the allegations of Russian support for Iran. ‘The Iranian regime is completely crushed,’ Kelly said. ‘Their ballistic missile retaliatory strikes are diminishing daily, their navy has been wiped out, their missile production capacity has been destroyed, and their proxies are struggling to fight.’ Asked about a message from the US to Russia and China, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said there was no specific message to either country, adding, ‘they are not really a factor here.’ Additionally, according to the Washington Post, two officials familiar with information about Russia’s support for Iran said that China does not appear to support Iran’s defence effort. Beijing has also called for an end to the conflict.
