US measles cases top 4,500, surpassing 2025 total
Washington (ANTARA) — Measles cases across the United States have now exceeded 4,500, more than double the total reported in 2025, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Friday.
The US recorded 2,289 cases across 45 separate outbreaks in 2025.
“As of 22 October 2026, 4,588 confirmed measles cases have been reported in the United States,” the CDC said.
Health authorities said 4,570 of the cases were reported across 47 jurisdictions, while the remaining 18 were detected in foreign visitors.
A total of 43 measles outbreaks have been recorded across the US since the beginning of this year.
Measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000 following mass vaccination.
The disease has since become increasingly active worldwide, raising the likelihood that measles could be brought into the US by unvaccinated people returning from overseas travel.
