US may delay implementation of new China tariffs following Xi Jinping visit
Washington (ANTARA) - The United States is expected to delay the announcement of new tariffs on imports from China, at least until after Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington next week, according to a Bloomberg report on Thursday (17/9).
According to the report, it is not yet clear whether the final US tariffs on China will differ from the previously estimated 7.5 per cent increase.
Xi Jinping is scheduled to arrive in Washington on Thursday (24/9).
Previously, US President Donald Trump visited Beijing in May alongside a delegation of US business representatives.
In August, Bloomberg reported that Washington was considering the imposition of a 7.5 per cent tariff on goods imported from China due to alleged overcapacity, which could bring total tariffs to approximately 20 per cent.
