Washington (ANTARA) - The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will be extended for 45 days for further progress in negotiations, US State Department spokesperson Thomas Pigott said on Friday (May 15).

“On May 14 and 15, the United States hosted very productive two-day talks between Israel and Lebanon. The cessation of hostilities on April 16 will be extended for 45 days to allow for further progress,” Pigott said on his X social media account.

The US State Department will continue the political track of the talks on June 2-3, he added.

“In addition, a security track will be launched at the Pentagon on May 29 with military delegations from both countries,” Pigott said.

He stated that the negotiations would advance lasting peace between the two countries, with full recognition of each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and build true security along their shared border.
