US launches strike on IRGC naval base in northern Iran

Tehran (ANTARA) - A headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy in Gilan Province, northern Iran, was confirmed to have been targeted by a United States attack on Friday morning.

“This morning, the IRGC Navy headquarters in Zibakenar was attacked by the US enemy, causing damage to equipment inside the complex,” said Ali Bagheri, a security official in Gilan, as quoted by the Mehr news agency.

He said local authorities would investigate the attack, adding that there were no casualties in the US strike.

On 18 June 2026, Tehran and Washington signed a peace memorandum to end the conflict that had broken out on 28 February. However, US forces resumed attacks on Iran from 8 July.

US Central Command claimed the strikes were carried out in retaliation for Iran’s actions against commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian forces responded to the US attacks by launching counter-strikes against US military bases in the Middle East.

President Trump subsequently said the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran was no longer in effect.
