US launches new wave of military strikes against Iran

The United States military has completed a new wave of strikes against Iranian military targets in Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konarak, and Bandar Abbas. The strikes were intended to degrade Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Tuesday. “In a five-hour mission, US forces successfully struck military targets across various regions in Iran, including Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Abu Musa, and Bandar Abbas, to further weaken Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping. CENTCOM forces used precision munitions against coastal defence systems, missile and drone sites, and Iranian maritime capabilities,” a CENTCOM statement on platform X said. The statement added that more than 50,000 US troops are currently deployed in the Middle East. Iran retaliated by launching missiles and drones at US military facilities in several countries in the region, while Tehran accused Washington of repeatedly violating a memorandum of understanding agreed upon on 17 June. US President Donald Trump subsequently stated that the understanding “has ended”. In a statement published by Sepah News, the IRGC stated that the US military had carried out airstrikes against several coastal military bases on Sunday evening local time, after the IRGC intercepted two vessels committing violations in the Strait of Hormuz.
