US launches new round of strikes against Iran

The United States armed forces have completed a new round of strikes against Iran, with more than 50,000 US troops in the Middle East remaining on high alert, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Saturday local time. “In US strikes for the eighth consecutive night, CENTCOM forces successfully struck Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defence facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage locations in continued efforts to degrade Iranian military capabilities,” CENTCOM said in a post on social media platform X. The US military also targeted Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which “launched attacks against US military members in Jordan on 17 July,” the command stated. “More than 50,000 US servicemen and women are deployed across the Middle East region. They remain highly vigilant, focused, dangerous, and ready,” CENTCOM said. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Iranian Army announced that its forces attacked US bases in Kuwait in retaliation for “aggression” against Iran and its civilian infrastructure by the US, such as bridges. In a statement published on its website, the Iranian Army said its forces had targeted Camp Al-Adiri and Ali Al Salem Air Base in two rounds of drone strikes.
