US Launches Fresh Strikes on Iran
The United States launched fresh strikes against Iran on Wednesday night (29/7), claiming it was retaliating for an ‘attempted Iranian attack’ on US forces in the Middle East, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
‘US forces began launching strikes against Iran at 8:00 p.m. ET today (Thursday, 7:00 a.m. WIB). The strikes are a forceful response to Iran’s attempted attack on US forces in the Middle East yesterday,’ CENTCOM said on social media platform X.
The strikes came after US President Donald Trump promised a ‘very hard’ response after a drone struck a US-owned LNG tanker in Egypt.
‘We will hit them very hard, because now it is our turn to strike them. They know our retaliation is coming,’ Trump said.
Tensions between Iran and the US have escalated in recent weeks. Following the US strikes on Iran, Iran retaliated by attacking US military facilities and installations in several countries in the Gulf region.
