US Launches All-Out Attacks Targeting Iran
The United States has begun launching all-out attacks on Iranian territory, striking dozens of targets across the country. This latest wave of strikes was intensified by the US after Iranian ballistic missiles targeting Jordan were intercepted. US President Donald Trump vowed to retaliate decisively against the Iranian attacks.
“We will strike them hard. They will be hit thoroughly,” Trump stated, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (29/7/2026). Trump noted that the missile attacks left American forces only a few minutes to react before they successfully intercepted the incoming projectiles.
Trump also stated that airstrikes conducted by US and Saudi forces against Iranian-backed paramilitary groups in Iraq were carried out in coordination with the Iraqi government. These joint US-Saudi operations occurred after Saudi authorities reported that their forces had intercepted drones targeting oil facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia, an attack Saudi authorities attributed to Iranian-backed groups in Iraq. These strikes take place amidst increasing US pressure on the Iraqi government to disarm pro-Iranian armed groups.
Targeting the Iranian Military
An US official told CNN that the US is launching attacks against military targets. “We will strike them very hard because now it is our turn to strike them. They know it is coming,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday.
According to Al Jazeera and reports from the Iranian media outlet Press TV, explosions were heard in several locations in southern Iran following the US strikes. Other Iranian media, such as Tasnim, reported three explosions within Qeshm Island. Local residents stated that a missile hit a residential area, though information regarding casualties is still unavailable.
According to the state broadcaster IRIB, explosions were also heard in Bushehr province, home to Iran’s only nuclear power plant.
Two-Hour US Assault
The US military strikes lasted for two hours and hit dozens of targets in Iran. Washington described the recent strikes as a “strong response” to Iranian missiles launched towards US forces in the Middle East the previous day. The US strikes resulted in the deaths of three members of a family, including a two-year-old child, on Qeshm Island, Iran, reported the Fars news agency, as cited by AFP on Thursday (30/7/2026). “The US attack on a residential house in the Chah Tangu area, Qeshm, killed three family members: a father, mother, and their 2-year-old child,” Fars reported, citing the Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences, adding that two other children were injured.
Iran Condemns US-Saudi Joint Attack
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the joint US and Saudi airstrikes in Iraq. Tehran described the attacks as a blatant violation of Baghdad’s sovereignty and a deliberate attempt by Washington and Israel to expand regional warfare.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the aggressive attacks by the United States and Saudi Arabia in several regions of Iraq,” the ministry stated in a release on Wednesday (29/7), as reported by Press TV on Thursday (30/7/2026). The Iranian ministry termed the strikes as “clear aggression against the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq” and a “flagrant violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter and the fundamental rules of international law.” Tehran warned that these attacks are “aligned with the ambitions of the United States and the Zionist regime to expand the scope of war and conflict in the West Asian region.”
Previously, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) stated that at least 20 fighters were killed and 32 others wounded in the joint US and Saudi attacks in Iraq. The PMF is an alliance of former paramilitary groups and factions that are now integrated into the Iraqi armed forces.
