US–Israel war against Iran: 15 Indonesian citizens ready to be evacuated from Tehran
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Foreign Minister Sugiono has prepared the evacuation of Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Iran. The evacuation preparations follow the worsening of the conflict between the United States (US) and Israel and Iran. “Amid the escalating tensions, earlier today I also instructed our ambassador in Tehran to take immediate evacuation steps should there be Indonesians who wish to be evacuated,” Sugiono said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday evening (3 March 2026). Sugiono explained that the evacuation of Indonesian citizens in Iran would be conducted via Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. “The evacuation from Tehran would require them to be brought to Baku (Azerbaijan). From Tehran to Baku is a ten-hour road journey,” Sugiono said. The evacuation will be carried out in stages, taking into account security conditions in the country. The government continues to monitor the latest developments, given the Middle East region’s dynamic situation with potential for rapid change. “I think the situation going forward will continue to evolve; we will see what happens. But as the President said, whatever happens we must be ready to face all possibilities,” Sugiono said. Sugiono said the government respects the decision and is ready to facilitate if they wish to be evacuated from Iran. “It should be noted that not all Indonesians in the affected areas will necessarily express a desire to evacuate,” Sugiono added. “But it was said that some are prepared to be evacuated from Iran, and I have ordered the gradual evacuation to be carried out,” the Secretary-General of the Gerindra Party added. The emergency numbers have been released to provide a communications channel for Indonesian citizens in the midst of the US-Israel-Iran war situation. “In an emergency, Indonesians can contact immediately the Hotline of the Directorate for Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via +62 812-9007-0027,” Kemlu said in the official statement, Monday (2 March 2026).
