Jakarta — Deputy Chairman of the MUI, Marsudi Syuhud, told President Prabowo that if there is no prospect for peace, it would be better to withdraw from the Board of Peace. He argued that the MUI has a firm stance and a strong desire for Palestinian independence and peace.

He also urged President Prabowo to pursue a ‘jaipongan diplomacy’. He likened the situation to Saudi Arabia or Bahrain, which have close ties with the United States, where their thumbs could be pressed. By contrast, Iran, which is not close to the United States, could be struck. In this situation, Indonesia must be clever with jaipongan diplomacy.

UNPAD Middle East geopolitics expert Dina Sulaeman said that when two major strategic policies are pursued almost simultaneously, they are interdependent. She noted that there are many provisions that disadvantage Indonesia.

Furthermore, the current Board of Peace cannot create peace. In her view, there has been no detailed discussion about Palestine within the BoP.

‘If we truly want peace, why attack other sovereign countries? Trump is not a peacemaker. Why should we join (the Board of Peace)?’ she said.

Ulta Levenia Nababan, Senior Expert at the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), clarified her statements by emphasising that the Board of Peace cannot be linked to the US trade tariff agreement. Additionally, she noted that there has not been any 17 trillion transaction that has been widely discussed by the public.

The public has urged Indonesia to withdraw from the Board of Peace following the US-Israel strike on Iran on Saturday, 28 February 2026.
