US-Israel–Iran War: P2MI Minister Urges Indonesian Migrant Workers to Avoid High-Risk Areas
Minister of Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI) Mukhtarudin said his ministry continues to monitor geopolitical developments in the Middle East following the United States–Israel war with Iran. He confirmed that, to date, no Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) have been affected. ‘Based on coordination with Indonesian representatives, up to Wednesday 4 March 2026, there have been no reports of PMI safety incidents arising from the developments,’ Mukhtarudin told reporters on Thursday (5 March 2026). ‘Nevertheless, the government is heightening vigilance given the rapidly evolving security dynamics,’ he added. He said the Ministry of P2MI is coordinating with the Foreign Ministry and Indonesian representatives in the Middle East region as an anticipatory step. This, he said, is to ensure PMI conditions remain safe and protected. ‘The establishment of the Crisis Monitoring Team under the Directorate General of Protection for daily monitoring and risk mitigation, the data collection of PMI as part of evacuation preparedness, the preparation and dissemination of public information and safety guidelines, the activation of a hotline for complaints specific to the Middle East region, and other strategic steps,’ he said. Mukhtarudin urged PMI in the Middle East to stay calm. In addition, he asked PMI to avoid high-risk locations. ‘The P2MI urges PMI in the Middle East to remain calm, avoid high-risk locations, limit activities outside urgent needs, follow the guidance of Indonesian representatives, and promptly report to the nearest Indonesian embassy or consulate-general if they encounter an emergency,’ he explained. He said the government will facilitate repatriation if any PMI is willing to return home. He also noted that psychological support services are available, including online consultations for PMI in need. ‘If there are PMI in the Middle East who choose or need to return to Indonesia, the government will facilitate repatriation according to applicable mechanisms,’ he added.
