JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto is said to be mapping Indonesia’s navigation amid the global situation following the United States (US) and Israel’s attack on Iran. The disclosure was made by former Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda after attending a meeting between Prabowo and former presidents and vice presidents, a diplomat, and the general chairman of a political party, on Tuesday evening (3 March 2025). ‘The President described how we must navigate our lives not just around two reefs, but now several reefs, and that is not easy,’ Hassan said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted from the Kompas TV broadcast. ‘The President provided an update briefing on various latest developments in the world, particularly those that have long been of concern to many of us, specifically the most recent developments—the US and Israel’s attack on Iran,’ Hassan said. Hassan also revealed that the meeting discussed the impacts that Indonesia and the global order will face after the attack on Iran. ‘Was discussed what the implications are for us? For the world, when the world order is no longer effective and there is no longer any chance for a country that has been a victim of military aggression to appeal to anyone,’ he said. ‘Because the UN has ceased to play a role and the rules-based order is only on paper, and there is indeed no coercive power, especially if it concerns large powers,’ he added. Besides peace and security aspects, the conflict between the US-Israel and Iran could potentially affect the economy. ‘The potential effects of this war on the global economy, particularly relating to supply, oil and gas, we have to calculate all the effects on us from that perspective alone,’ he explained.
