US-Israel Attack Iran; MUI Chief: Board of Peace Is Ineffectual
Indonesia’s Ulema Council (MUI) has condemned the military strike launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on Saturday, 28 February 2026. Drawing on this attack, the Council assessed that the existence of the Board of Peace (BoP) is ineffectual because it has failed to create peace.
MUI chairman for International Relations Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim stated that this attack represents concrete evidence that US President Donald Trump is in fact a destroyer of peace.
“As a result, the BoP increasingly loses moral, political, and even legal legitimacy because it has proven ineffectual in creating genuine peace, let alone justice,” Sudarnoto said in a written statement on the MUI Digital platform on Sunday, 1 March 2026.
He regards President Trump as an actor who has hijacked the word “peace” for his hegemonic and imperialist ambitions. Sudarnoto stated that the attack on Iran demonstrates that the US-led Board of Peace cannot be trusted as an international body championing peace and Palestinian independence.
Furthermore, according to Sudarnoto, US and Israeli aggression against Iran will precipitate a regional war in the Middle East. He suspects this is deliberately intended by the United States and Israel to completely destabilise the Middle East.
“And ultimately Palestine and the Middle East will be under the control of the United States and Israel. Indonesia should not become involved and should firmly reject all military aggression,” Sudarnoto said.
The MUI also urged the Indonesian government to enforce international law and champion justice-based peaceful resolution. Sudarnoto stated that the US-Israeli military strike against Iran constitutes a genuine threat to efforts to strengthen genuine peace and global order.
Sudarnoto emphasised that this attack represents a broader geopolitical configuration. For him, Israel and the United States are parties that must be held accountable. “It is not only Iran that has been sacrificed by the hegemonic-imperialist ambitions of Israel-America,” he said.
This attack, according to Sudarnoto, represents a systematic attempt to weaken Iran’s strategic position in the region and even prevent Iranian support for the Palestinian cause. “So this is a way to apply political pressure to ensure Israeli regional dominance over Palestine is truly guaranteed,” he said.
Israel, according to Israeli Defence Minister Katz, launched an unprovoked strike against Iran on Saturday morning, 28 February 2026, coinciding with the announcement of a nationwide state of emergency. A US official told Al Jazeera that the strike against Iran was carried out as a joint military operation between the US and Israel.
Several explosions were heard in Iran’s capital, Teheran, with thick smoke rising in various parts of the city. In addition to Teheran, according to local media as reported by Al Jazeera, explosions were reported in several cities, including Kermanshah, Lorestan, Tabriz, Isfahan, and Karaj.
