United States (US) and Iran have resumed hostilities following a weeks-long ceasefire. When will this conflict truly end?

International relations expert Teuku Rezasyah from Padjadjaran University initially stated that the US would continue attacking Iran, with Iran retaliating with greater destructive power.

“The US will continue attacking Iran without any time limit. Iran will retaliate using plasma weaponry, which has extraordinary destructive capabilities,” Rezasyah said when contacted on Friday, 29 May 2026.

He warned that the conflict could escalate, with both nations’ allies covertly supporting and engaging in the war.

“There is potential for the conflict to widen, involving covert support from US allies in the Indo-Pacific,” he said.

The situation, he added, cannot be resolved by the UN as it remains normative. Therefore, he predicted the war would last longer, with the US declaring victory by 4 July 2026.

“It is estimated that the conventional war will last longer. The US will declare itself the victor by 4 July 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of its founding,” he said.

It is known that the US military launched a new attack on Iran on Thursday morning. The strike targeted locations around the Strait of Hormuz, posing a threat to US forces and commercial shipping, according to a US official.

In response, the Iranian military reportedly fired warning shots at vessels attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz.

“Four vessels attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and enter the Persian Gulf without coordinating with the security forces responsible for the strait,” reported several government-affiliated Iranian media outlets, according to CNN International on Thursday, 28 May.

“They were warned, and after ignoring the warning, warning shots were fired, forcing them to turn back,” according to the report.
