US-Iran Set to Resume Talks, Trump Hints at Something Happening in Pakistan
The United States and Iran have indicated the possibility of resuming talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, this week. US President Donald Trump stated that something might happen in the next two days regarding those negotiations. “You’d better stay there, really, because something might happen in the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there,” Trump told a New York Post reporter stationed in Islamabad, as reported by CNN on Wednesday (15/4/2026). “It’s more likely to happen, you know why? Because the field marshal is doing a fantastic job,” he added. Trump was referring to Pakistan’s Field Marshal General Asim Munir, whom he described as “fantastic”. Geneva was also floated as another potential location for peace talks, but Trump appeared to dismiss that possibility. “Why should we go to a country that has nothing to do with this?” Trump said. Trump declined to specify who would represent the United States in the next potential round of negotiations. Vice President JD Vance led the US side in negotiations in Pakistan over the past weekend, which ended without an agreement. The President also stated that he does not like the idea of Iran halting uranium enrichment for 20 years, a point reportedly proposed by US negotiators according to CNN. “I’ve said they can’t have nuclear weapons,” Trump told the New York Post. “So, I don’t like that 20-year (period).”
