US-Iran Psychological Warfare Intensifies
The conflict involving the United States and Iran shows no signs of reaching an end, with both nations exchanging the latest round of threats.
According to reports on Tuesday (22/9/2026), the friction between the two nations intensified following a joint attack by the US and Israel on Iranian territory on 28 February. That attack resulted in the death of Ali Khamenei, who served as the Supreme Leader of Iran.
Subsequent retaliatory strikes between the US and Iran have had repercussions across several Middle Eastern nations, even extending to the closure of access to the Strait of Hormuz. Despite months of negotiations aimed at reaching a peace agreement, efforts have yet to yield results. Now, the leaders of both nations are spreading threats of renewed attacks.
Trump Warns of Major Developments if Iran Provokes
US President Donald Trump stated that he is currently in a crucial ‘decision-making mode’ regarding the conflict situation with Iran. Trump warned that ‘big things’ will happen if Tehran does not change its behaviour.
‘The question is whether and when I will destroy the entire country? They [Iran] had better behave,’ Trump said in a recent interview with the prominent US television network Fox News, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Monday (2_1/9).
In the interview, which aired on Sunday (20/9) local time, Trump outlined the options currently available to him, ranging from eliminating Iran and allowing the country to ‘rot’ economically, to negotiating a deal.
‘Very big things will happen in the near future,’ Trump said in a warning tone.
When asked about the upcoming high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly, which began on Monday (21/9) local time, Trump hinted at a willingness to pursue a diplomatic approach. He even mentioned a ‘possibility remains open’ to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who will attend the UN General Assembly in New York in person.
The 81st UN General Assembly is scheduled to be held from 18-28 September at the UN headquarters in New York, with the main General Debate taking place from 22-28 September. The Trump administration has permitted the Iranian delegation, including Pezeshkian, to attend the global forum, albeit with restrictions on movement and a ban on shopping while in New York.
Iran Unfazed by Trump’s Threats
Iran has issued its latest warning to the United States should it continue military operations against Tehran. Iran asserted that any US attack would trigger sustained retaliation against Washington’s bases and interests in the Middle East region.
This warning, reported by Al Arabiya and Anadolu Agency on Monday (21/9), came after the Iranian Armed Forces received updated intelligence that the US is preparing to continue combat operations.
‘Any US attack will be met with continuous attacks on US bases and interests,’ stated the Iranian Armed Forces.
The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which serves as the command centre for all Iranian armed forces, stated that it had received information indicating that the US has decided to launch further attacks against Iran.
‘Based on information received, the criminal America has once again decided to proceed with measures against Iran, with a green light from several regional countries, during a joint meeting in a European nation,’ the Khaterm al-Anbiya Headquarters said in a statement broadcast on the state television IRIB.
Furthermore, the headquarters warned that regional countries would be considered ‘involved’ if they ‘side with the aggression’ of the US.
