United States President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have signed a memorandum of peace agreement to end the war. The document was signed in two different languages.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the memorandum was signed in English and Farsi. The use of two languages was a request from the Iranian side.

“This represents the highest level of transparency in our public communication,” Esmail said, as reported by CNN on Thursday (18/6/2026).

“If the text were only in English, there might be subjective or differing translations,” he added.

Baghaei said the Farsi text in the document corresponds to the English version. Iran considers the text of the peace agreement as something ‘fully authoritative and valid’.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also spoken out after the US and Iran signed the peace agreement memorandum. Pakistan, which played an important role in the negotiations between the two countries, supports the steps taken by the US and Iran.

“The Islamabad MoU will take effect immediately and as a first step, the Islamic Republic of Iran will promptly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States will immediately lift the naval blockade,” Sharif said.

Sharif said his country, together with co-mediator Qatar, will host a formal ceremony scheduled for Friday (19/6) in Switzerland “to commemorate this momentous event and commence technical-level talks.”

“The signing of this agreement at the highest level of the respective governments demonstrates the commitment of both sides to the diplomatic resolution of the conflict,” Sharif said.

As is known, Trump signed the peace memorandum with Iran during a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles following the G7 summit meeting on Wednesday (17/6) evening.

“Just signed it,” Trump said as he left the palace, as reported by AFP.

Separately, the Iranian government also confirmed it has signed the agreement document to end the war with the US.
