US-Iran Peace Deal: Macron Demands Immediate, Unconditional Opening of Strait of Hormuz
French President Emmanuel Macron has welcomed the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as the result of diplomatic efforts involving multiple parties.
“I welcome the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, the result of diplomatic efforts involving several partners. I call for rapid and full implementation by all parties involved in the conflict,” Macron stated in a social media post, as reported by Al Jazeera on Monday (15/06/2026).
Macron emphasised that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened immediately and without conditions, noting that its reopening is vital for global economic stability.
“This agreement must enable the urgent and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is ready to be supported by an international mission formed alongside the United Kingdom. Resources are available and ready to be deployed,” he said.
“The reopening of maritime traffic, without restrictions or levies, is essential for regional and global economic stability,” he added.
The United Nations has also welcomed the peace deal, viewing it as a momentum to end the war.
“The Secretary-General hopes that the relevant parties will capitalise on this new momentum and redouble their efforts towards a final resolution of the conflict,” said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a statement delivered by spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, as reported by AFP.
US President Donald Trump announced that a peace agreement with Iran has been reached, officially ending the US military blockade in the Strait of Hormumn.
“With this, I fully authorise the opening of the Strait of Hormuz without toll fees, and, simultaneously, authorise the immediate lifting of the United States Navy blockade,” Trump wrote, according to CNN.
“Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” Trump continued.
Trump’s announcement followed a statement from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who announced that Iran and the US had agreed to peace. On his Truth Social platform, Trump confirmed the news, stating that all documents for the peace agreement with Iran had been finalised.
“The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!” Trump said.
