US-Iran Negotiations in Pakistan to Begin Tonight
Tehran (ANTARA) - Negotiations planned between Iran and the United States in Islamabad are expected to begin on Saturday evening and last for one day, according to the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday. Iran’s delegation is prepared to face any outcome from the negotiations, including the possibility of no agreement at all, according to a report from the Iranian government television station, IRIB. The negotiations are reported to be held both directly and indirectly. Pakistan is acting as a mediator because the country hopes to help realise lasting peace in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the US delegation is led by Vice President J.D. Vance and accompanied by President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, who is also Trump’s son-in-law. Trump announced an agreement with Iran regarding a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday (7/4) previously. Foreign Minister Araghchi then announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which has contributed around 20 percent of the world’s supply of oil, petroleum products, and LNG.
