US-Iran Negotiations Deadlocked, Washington's Final Offer Rejected by Tehran

Bad news is that we have not reached an agreement.

Washington (ANTARA) - The failure to reach an agreement between the United States (US) and Iran is considered more detrimental to Tehran than to Washington, according to US Vice President J.D. Vance.

“Bad news is that we have not reached an agreement. And I think this is far worse news for Iran than for the United States,” Vance said to reporters after the negotiations.

Vance, who is the Head of the US Delegation in talks with Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan, also conveyed that the US has demonstrated sufficient flexibility during the negotiation process with Iran. He emphasised that Washington has clearly communicated its red lines and room for compromise in the negotiations.

According to Vance, Iran decided not to accept the terms proposed by the US. “They have chosen not to accept our terms,” he told reporters after the talks.

He added that the US still hopes Iran commits to not developing nuclear weapons in the long term.

“The question is simple: do we see a fundamental commitment from Iran not to develop nuclear weapons, not just now or in the next two years, but in the long term? We have not seen it. We hope to see it,” said Vance.

Vance also stressed that the offer presented by the US in the latest negotiations is the final and best offer.

“We are leaving this place with a very simple proposal, a method of understanding that is our final and best offer,” he said in Islamabad after the negotiations.

He reiterated that the US position has been clearly conveyed in the negotiations.

“We have explained very clearly what our red lines are, what we can accommodate and what we cannot, and we have conveyed it as clearly as possible, but they chose not to accept our terms,” said Vance.
