Swiss authorities have announced the postponement of a planned meeting between the United States and Iran scheduled for Friday (19/6) local time to discuss the implementation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the war, which has been signed by both countries.

“The planned talks between the US, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan have been postponed,” the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, as reported by AFP on Friday (19/6/2026). “Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these talks. Relevant preparatory work in Burgenstock continues,” the statement added, without providing a new date for the US-Iran discussions.

The announcement came just hours after the cancellation of US Vice President JD Vance’s departure to Switzerland on Thursday (18/6) US time. The White House explained that Vance, who was leading the US delegation, postponed the trip because logistical details for the expected technical talks with Iran had not yet been resolved. “As of now, the Vice President will not be departing tonight,” a White House spokesperson said on Thursday local time.

Vance was expected to travel to Switzerland as part of efforts to advance the discussions on Iran. “As the Vice President said in his press conference, the plans for the upcoming technical talks have not been finalised, and the US delegation has been ready to depart at the first available opportunity. But the logistics of these negotiations are never simple or predictable,” the spokesperson stated, adding that the US hopes to begin the technical talks “as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that “nothing has been confirmed yet” regarding the Iranian delegation’s travel to Switzerland. Previously, Swiss authorities had confirmed that a signing ceremony for the MoU between the US and Iran would take place on Friday at the Burgenstock resort in central Switzerland. The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) had been in close contact over several days with the US and Iran, as well as with Pakistan and Qatar as mediators, regarding the signing plan. According to the FDFA, the location for the ceremony was proposed by the mediators, Pakistan and Qatar, as well as by the US and Iran.
