Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has instructed all his military units to cease attacks following an agreement on a two-week ceasefire with the United States (US). Nevertheless, Mojtaba reminded that the ceasefire is not the end of the war.

Cited by detikNews from NDTV and Hindustan Times on Wednesday (8/4/2026), Khamenei’s statement was delivered through the state-owned broadcasting station, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), after the US and Iran announced the two-week ceasefire agreement. This agreement is based on negotiations mediated by Pakistan.

“This is not the end of the war, but all military branches must obey the Supreme Leader’s orders and stop their firing,” said Mojtaba Khamenei in his statement.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council separately issued a similar warning, stating “our finger remains on the trigger,” signalling that Tehran is prepared to attack if the enemy acts in any way.

“It is emphasised that this does not indicate the end of the war,” stated Iran’s Supreme National Security Council in a release following the ceasefire announcement with the US.

“Our finger remains on the trigger, and if the enemy makes even the smallest mistake, it will be responded to with full force,” asserted Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Mojtaba’s statement was released while he was reportedly unconscious and undergoing emergency medical treatment in the city of Qom, Iran. His condition has sparked speculation about who is actually leading Iran amid the war against the US and Israel that has raged over the past few weeks.

The Times of India reported, citing diplomatic memos and US-Israel intelligence assessments, that the Supreme Leader of Iran is in a “critical” condition and “unable to engage in any decision-making by the Tehran regime.”

In its statement, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council affirmed that Tehran “will only accept the end of the war after details are settled in negotiations, on the condition that the principles outlined in the 10-point plan are accepted.”

The term “10-point plan” refers to the proposal containing 10 points submitted by Iran as the basis for negotiations with the US. This proposal is a revision of the previous 15-point proposal submitted by Washington to Tehran, in an effort to achieve a ceasefire for the war that has been ongoing for six weeks.

Iran’s 10-point plan covers various fundamental points, from controlling traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the withdrawal of US troops from all positions in the region, to full compensation payments to Iran and the lifting of all primary and secondary sanctions against Tehran.

Iran confirmed that further negotiations with the US will be held in Islamabad on Friday (10/4) and will take place over two weeks while the ceasefire is in effect. This deadline can be extended based on agreement between both parties.
