US Intelligence Reveals China 'Possesses' Data on 220 Million American Voters

Washington (ANTARA) - The United States Intelligence Community on Thursday revealed that China has obtained data on 220 million American voters through various means, according to a fact sheet obtained by the White House press corps.

“The People’s Republic of China and parties acting on its behalf have purchased, stolen, or hacked the voter registration data of 220 million Americans. China’s data collection encompasses data that is not publicly available,” the fact sheet stated, as confirmed by the leaders of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Security Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Department of Homeland Security.

The document defines “election interference” as overt or covert influence exerted by a foreign government with the aim of directly or indirectly influencing US elections.

The document also noted that US intelligence agencies determined in 2022 that a Chinese cyber exploitation actor had allegedly obtained voter registration data available on online trading platforms.

“Adversaries can manipulate the data to prevent individual voters or groups of voters from casting their ballots, causing delays in voter turnout on election day or forcing voters to use provisional ballots. Adversaries can also use registration data, which in some cases is publicly available or can be purchased, to design interference efforts or other influence operations,” according to the US Intelligence Community.

In early July, US President Donald Trump claimed that China had allegedly done everything possible to prevent his re-election in 2020. Trump also accused US intelligence officials of deliberately concealing that information from the White House.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington told RIA Novosti that China has never interfered and will never interfere in US presidential elections.
