US Intelligence Reveals China 'Possesses' Data on 220 Million American Voters

Washington - The United States intelligence community revealed on Thursday that China has obtained data on 220 million American voters through various means, according to a fact sheet obtained by the White House press corps. “The People’s Republic of China and parties acting on their behalf have purchased, stolen, or hacked the voter registration data of 220 million US citizens. China’s collection of data includes information that is not publicly available,” stated the fact sheet, which was confirmed by the heads of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Security Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Department of Homeland Security. The document defines “intervention in elections” as overt or covert influence by a foreign government with the aim of directly or indirectly affecting US elections. The document also noted that in 2022, US intelligence agencies identified a Chinese cyber actor suspected of obtaining voter registration data available on online trading platforms. “Adversaries can manipulate data to prevent individual voters or groups of voters from casting their ballots, causing delays in voter arrival on election day or forcing voters to use provisional ballots. Adversaries can also exploit registration data, which in some cases is publicly available or purchasable, to design interference or other influence efforts,” the US intelligence community stated. In early July, US President Donald Trump claimed that China allegedly did everything possible to thwart his re-election in 2020, and accused US intelligence officials of deliberately concealing this information from the White House. The Chinese Embassy in Washington told RIA Novosti that China has never and will never interfere in US presidential elections.
