US Intelligence: Iran Rebuilding Military Capabilities Faster Than Expected
A US intelligence report has revealed that Iran has restarted partial drone production during a six-week ceasefire that began in early April 2026. The move signals Tehran’s rapid reconstruction of its military capabilities at a pace surpassing Western estimates.
According to sources familiar with US intelligence assessments, the Iranian military has undertaken rapid reconstruction of assets damaged in US and Israeli strikes, including missile sites, launchers, and capacity to produce key weapon systems.
An unnamed US official told media that Iran is likely to fully restore its drone attack capabilities within six months. ‘Tehran has surpassed all timelines set by the intelligence community for reconstruction,’ the official said.
The speed of recovery raises concerns for regional partners. If tensions flare again, Iran is expected to compensate for reduced missile production with a massive drone offensive toward Israel and Gulf states.
The report also highlights factors accelerating Iran’s recovery, including component support from Russia and China. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had suggested that China provided missile-manufacturing components to Iran, although the claim was strongly denied by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun.
On the other hand, there are stark differences of opinion within the US military. CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper previously testified before the US House Armed Services Committee that Operation Epic Fury had destroyed 90% of Iran’s defense industrial base and would take years to recover.
However, other intelligence sources say the damage has only delayed Iran by months, not years. Most of Iran’s defense-industrial bases are reported to remain intact and ready to resume operations.
Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to resume combat operations if a deal to end the war is not reached. On Tuesday, Trump even claimed he was only an hour away from deciding to restart bombings.
With military capabilities recovering more quickly, Iran remains a significant threat to regional stability. Despite US-Israel strikes degrading Tehran’s power, field evidence shows Iran can limit long-term war impacts through aggressive and effective reconstruction strategies.
