US Intelligence Community Alleges China Has Obtained Data on 220 Million American Voters

The United States Intelligence Community revealed on Thursday that China has obtained data on 220 million American voters through various means, according to a fact sheet obtained by journalists at the White House. “The People’s Republic of China and parties acting on their behalf have purchased, stolen, or hacked the voter registration data of 220 million Americans. China’s data collection includes data not available to the public,” the fact sheet stated, which was confirmed by the leadership of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Security Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Department of Homeland Security. The document defines ‘election interference’ as overt or covert actions by a foreign government aimed at influencing US elections, either directly or indirectly. The document also noted that US intelligence agencies in 2022 identified a Chinese computer network exploitation actor suspected of obtaining voter registration data available on online trading platforms. The intelligence community report stated, “Adversaries can manipulate data to prevent individual voters or groups of voters from casting ballots, causing delays in voter arrival on election day or forcing voters to use provisional ballots.”
