US House Passes Bill for Ukraine Aid and Russian Sanctions

The United States House of Representatives has approved a bill regarding aid for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia following a vote. The bill, proposed in April 2025, was supported by 226 members of the House, while 195 members opposed it.

The bill establishes the creation of a recovery fund for Ukraine and updates presidential authority to lend or lease defence assets to Ukraine and Eastern European countries. Additionally, the draft mentions the extension of the US Department of Defense’s authority to provide security and intelligence assistance to Ukraine until the end of 2027, and mandates the US Department of State to take steps to strengthen the armed forces and border services of the Baltic states.

The bill also empowers the US President to evaluate the situation of Russia-Ukraine relations and take restrictive measures, including sanctions, asset freezes, and additional export duties. The bill must now be approved by the Senate to be enacted into law.
