The US House of Representatives approved a resolution proposed by the Democratic Party, which aims to limit the authority of President Donald Trump to continue military action against Iran without the approval of Congress. This is a blow to Trump in Congress even though his party has a slim majority.

As reported by Reuters on Thursday (4/6/20206), the resolution was approved through a vote of 215 in favor and 208 against. In the vote held on Wednesday (3/6) local time, four members of the Republican Party defected by joining the Democratic Party to support the measure. This is a rare bipartisan rejection of Trump’s war policy.

The vote is largely symbolic. Even though it has passed in the House of Representatives, the resolution still needs to be approved by the Senate, which is currently controlled by the Republican Party. Even if it is passed by the Senate, Trump can still veto the rule. To override the president’s veto, two-thirds of the votes are needed in both houses of Congress.

The resolution is the fourth attempt by the House of Representatives to limit the president’s war powers since the war with Iran broke out in February. The previous three resolutions failed in the House of Representatives with increasingly narrow margins.

To date, the US and Iran have not reached a peace agreement to end the war. Trump claims he wants to meet with Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

“I want to meet him, and we may meet sometime, depending on how things go,” Trump said to the New York Post’s ‘Pod Force One’ podcast, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (3/6/2026).

Mojtaba Khamenei is said to have been injured in a joint attack by the US and Israel at the end of February. The attack also killed Mojtaba’s father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Trump said that the US side has received information about Mojtaba’s current condition. He said the Iranian Supreme Leader was seriously injured.

“I haven’t heard that he’s doing well,” Trump said.
