US Grants Trump, His Family and Business Empire Immunity from Tax Audits: Permanently

Washington — United States President Donald Trump, his family and a sprawling network of business interests have officially obtained immunity from all ongoing tax audits. The decision appears in a new directive issued by the U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, according to Al Jazeera. The move comes as an addendum to the settlement reached by Trump a day earlier. Under the agreement, Trump agreed to settle a $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) related to the leakage of his tax information to the media during 2018 to 2020. In the one-page document signed by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the Department of Justice states that authorities will be ‘permanently barred’ from ‘bringing or continuing’ any tax claims against Trump, his relatives, and his business network. The document posted on the DOJ’s official site, without an official announcement or press release, emphasises that this exemption applies to investigations that are ‘currently pending or potentially pending.’ This includes cases related to tax return filings made by Trump prior to the Monday agreement.
