U.S. golfer Meeks takes sole lead in Bali
JAKARTA (JP): American Eric Meeks surged ahead to the sole lead position yesterday after firing a five-under par-67 for a 133 at the halfway stage of the US$250,000 Sempati Bali Open golf championship.
South Korea's Kim Jong-duck carded the day's best score with a brilliant eight-under par-64 and collected Rp 500,000 for his performance. He took the third place with a 135 (71 64)
One stroke behind the leader for second spot were Australian Glen Joyner and Kevin Wentworth (USA) each with a 134.
"There were no pressures and I played very relaxed," the Californian Meeks said of his fine strokes after concluding yesterday's round at the Bali Golf and Country Club.
By maintaining his strokes for the rest of the games, he predicted that he would have "a good chance...to win the event".
The three players in fourth place were Indian born Sweden's Daniel Chopra, overnight joined leader Brandt Jobe of the U.S. and fellow countryman Ray Cragun.
Local golfer I Nengah Darma, who collected a two-day total of three-under 141 (71 70) was the only host player able to place himself in the best 20. He was placed 19th with Bill Israelson (USA), Raul Fretes (Par), Pedro Martinez (Par) Lu Wen Ter, a Chinese Taipei veteran, and Gary Webb (USA), who won the 1993 Sampoerna Indonesia Open at the same par-72 layout (rsl).
