The Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Immigration and National Security has arrested an American citizen, identified by the initials AW, who was a fugitive wanted for sexual abuse cases. AW has now been deported from Indonesia.

“The deportation process has been completed,” stated the Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, when contacted on Sunday (7/6/2026).

The Directorate General of Immigration previously conducted an investigation into AW. Following coordination with the United States Embassy, AW was subject to immigration administrative measures (TAK) in the form of deportation and a ban on re-entry.

“At 10:00 WIB, the team departed from the Directorate General of Immigration to Soekarno-Hatta Airport to oversee the deportation of one US citizen, AW,” he said.

The deportation process was accompanied by the United States (US) Marshals Service. The process was successfully finalised.

“The deportation was carried out using Singapore Airlines flight SQ959 at 13:45. During the journey to the United States, the individual was accompanied by three members of the US Marshals,” he explained.

The Directorate General of Immigration previously revealed that the American national, AW, was being hunted by US law enforcement after fleeing to Indonesia. “AW is known to have entered Indonesia in 2011 to evade legal proceedings regarding sexual abuse cases committed in the United States,” the Directorate General of Immigration stated via their official Instagram account on Friday (5/6).

AW had been a fugitive from US law enforcement for at least 15 years. During his time in Indonesia, AW used a forged identity. He also committed other immigration violations, specifically the misuse of travel documents. The Directorate General of Immigration apprehended AW while he was hiding in a bunker within his house in the Sawangan area, Depok, West Java, on Thursday (23/4).

“From an immigration perspective, AW was proven to have committed serious violations, including the use of false identity and the misuse of travel documents,” the official stated.
