US Fighter Jet Attacks Iranian Tanker Violating Iranian Port Blockade
An Iranian-flagged tanker en route to an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman was attacked by a US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet. The tanker was declared to have violated the US blockade of Iranian ports.
According to detikNews, the incident occurred after the vessel ignored warnings that it was breaching the US naval blockade.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the US Navy fighter jet fired several rounds from a 20mm cannon, disabling the M/T Hasna tanker on Wednesday (6/5) morning local time.
“After the crew failed to comply with repeated warnings, US forces disabled the tanker’s steering by firing several rounds from a 20mm cannon from a US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet launched from USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). Hasna is no longer transiting to Iran,” said CENTCOM, as reported by Al Arabiya on Thursday (7/5/2026).
“The US blockade of vessels attempting to enter or exit Iranian ports remains fully in effect,” it added.
CENTCOM stated that its forces continue to act “with precision and professionalism to ensure compliance.”
Earlier that day, CENTCOM reported that the blockade had forced more than 50 commercial ships to turn back and return to port.
