US fails to intercept Iranian missile attacks on Israel
The United States military did not intercept any of the missiles launched by Iran towards Israel on Sunday night (7/6), according to CBS News, citing sources. Washington also did not participate in Israel’s retaliatory strikes against Iran, the report added.
On Sunday night, Iran launched several rockets towards the northern regions of the Zionist state. Air raid sirens sounded multiple times, including in Haifa. The attack occurred several hours after statements from Iran indicating a retaliation for recent Israeli military strikes on the outskirts of Beirut.
Subsequently, Israeli defence forces announced strikes against several military targets in central and western Iran. In response, Iran continued to launch artillery attacks against Israeli territory.
This escalation of tensions has raised questions regarding the fate of negotiations between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the conflict that began in late February. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that its side and the US are continuing negotiations.
On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks against several targets in Iran, including Tehran, resulting in damage and civilian casualties. Iran subsequently retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and American military facilities in the Middle East. Washington and Tehran later announced a ceasefire on 7 April, followed by talks in Islamabad which concluded without a resolution.
