US F-15 Pilot: Iran Has Drones Like Alien Aircraft

A US fighter jet pilot whose aircraft was shot down over Iran during the war has described the sophistication of the Islamic Republic’s drones. He recounted an unusual and potentially significant formation of Iranian drones moments before ejecting from his aircraft. According to a CNN report citing four sources familiar with the matter, the testimony was shared during a post-rescue intelligence briefing. The account drew attention among US intelligence officials for what it could reveal about Iran’s continuously developing drone warfare capabilities. The F-15 pilot reported seeing several Iranian drones operating together in a coordinated formation resembling a jellyfish. “Several drones were interconnected and moved as a single unit, with smaller drones beneath a larger one like legs,” one source familiar with the pilot’s report said. “It was like an alien aircraft,” the source added. Another source said the pilot described witnessing a “drone minefield” hovering in the air. The statement “immediately sparked a storm of debate within the US intelligence community that remains unresolved.” The incident occurred in April during the war between the United States and Iran. CNN reported that the F-15 was carrying a pilot and a weapons systems officer when it was shot down, marking the first known loss of a US aircraft over Iranian territory during the conflict. US forces promptly launched a rescue operation. The pilot was found several hours after ejecting. The weapons systems officer reportedly evaded capture in mountainous terrain for more than a day before being rescued.
