US Explores Maritime Cooperation with Indonesia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The United States is exploring opportunities for cooperation in the maritime sector with Indonesia through a Trade Mission on Security and Maritime Technology visiting Jakarta and Surabaya from 27 to 29 April 2026.
The mission, facilitated by the Trade Section of the US Embassy in Jakarta, is the first trade visit specifically focused on the maritime sector in Indonesia, while also reflecting the strengthening partnership between the two countries in the fields of maritime infrastructure and technology.
“I am pleased to bring together leading US companies in maritime technology and security with partners in Indonesia to advance shared priorities,” said Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the US Embassy in Jakarta, Peter M. Haymond, in a press release from the US Embassy in Jakarta on Wednesday.
During the visit, the US delegation held meetings with several stakeholders in Jakarta, including the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Defence, Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Danantara Indonesia, and the Indonesian Navy (TNI Angkatan Laut).
The agenda also included business explorations with local companies, a visit to Tanjung Priok Port, and a networking reception bringing together government, maritime associations, state-owned enterprises (BUMNs), and the private sector.
In Surabaya, the delegation attended a briefing session at the US Consulate General, visited Tanjung Perak Port, and discussed matters with leaders of the Indonesian Navy.
Haymond emphasised that the United States will continue to commit to delivering innovative and high-quality solutions and partnering with Indonesia to support a secure, resilient, and future-oriented maritime sector.
The US delegation consists of several maritime technology companies exploring collaboration opportunities to support Indonesia’s maritime economic growth.
Indonesia was selected as the next destination following the trade mission in Singapore as part of Singapore Maritime Week.
