US Embassy conveys condolences to earthquake victims in NTT

The Embassy and Consulates of the United States in Jakarta have conveyed their condolences to the victims affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

“The Embassy and Consulates of the United States in Indonesia express their deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones due to the devastating earthquake and its impacts in East Nusa Tenggara,” according to a statement from the US Embassy in Jakarta, posted on X on Sunday.

In addition to conveying condolences to the families of the deceased, the US Embassy also offered prayers and sympathy for the injured, as well as all communities affected by the disaster.

On this occasion, the US Embassy also urged the public to remain cautious and vigilant for the possibility of aftershocks.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Saturday morning.

Based on preliminary reports received by the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, the earthquake impacted several areas, particularly the regencies of Nagekeo, Sikka, Manggarai, West Manggarai, and Ende.

Approximately 2,000 people have been reported affected, while the number of displaced persons is still being recorded.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) released preliminary data as of Saturday at 18:48 WIB indicating that the total death toll from the earthquake has reached 47 people.
