US, Egypt, and Poland Extend Congratulations on Indonesia's 81st Independence Anniversary
A number of friendly countries conveyed congratulations on the commemoration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Anniversary on Monday (17/8/2026). Five countries—the United States, Egypt, Germany, Poland, and Switzerland—delivered special messages emphasising the strengthening of strategic partnerships and historical bonds.
The United States conveyed its congratulations through Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In a message posted on the X account of the US Embassy in Jakarta, Rubio underscored the enduring partnership between the two countries, rooted in a commitment to democratic governance.
“A shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region serves as the foundation of the relationship between the two countries,” Rubio said in his statement.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Yasser Hassan Faraq Elshemy, through the embassy’s official Instagram account, emphasised pride in the deep historical ties. Egypt reaffirmed its status as the first country to recognise Indonesia’s independence.
As a historical note, Egypt recognised Indonesia’s independence de facto on 22 March 1946, followed by de jure recognition on 10 June 1947.
“Egypt is very proud of the historical bond between our two nations as well as its status as the first country to recognise Indonesia’s independence,” Elshemy said. He also prayed that Indonesia would continue to progress and succeed in the future.
Germany’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Ralf Beste, highlighted the diplomatic relations that have been established for 74 years. According to him, the relationship has been built on mutual respect, trust, and shared prosperity.
“We value this friendship and are confident that this cooperation will continue to grow for the progress and prosperity of both countries,” Beste said via the Instagram account @germanembassyjkt.
Meanwhile, Poland’s Ambassador Barbara Szymanowska invited the public to celebrate Indonesia’s historical achievements and look towards a hopeful future. She expressed hope that Indonesia-Poland bilateral cooperation would grow closer and bring tangible benefits to both nations.
From the Swiss side, Ambassador Konstantin Obolensky mentioned that this year is a special momentum as it marks 75 years of partnership between Indonesia and Switzerland. Although he had only recently arrived in Indonesia, Obolensky admitted he was impressed by the warmth and spirit of the people in celebrating independence.
The commemoration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Anniversary in 2026 carries the theme “Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil dan Makmur” (A Sovereign, Just and Prosperous Indonesia), which serves as a reflection of the nation’s spirit in continuing national development.
