Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Rupiah exchange rate managed to continue its strengthening trend, closing higher against the US dollar on Thursday (26/2/2026).

According to Refinitiv data, the Rupiah closed trading at IDR 16,750/US, appreciatingby0.18.

Throughout today’s trading, the Rupiah consistently remained in positive territory. The Rupiah opened at IDR 16,720/US$, which was also the Rupiah’s strongest level during the session, before its gains slightly eased to the closing level.

Meanwhile, the US dollar index (DXY) was still in negative territory at 15:00 WIB, with a correction of 0.08% to 97.626.

The Rupiah’s strengthening in today’s trading is still influenced by the dynamics of the US dollar in the global market. The weakening of the dollar is reflected in the decline of the DXY, which indicates that market players are selling assets denominated in the greenback. This, in turn, creates room for other currencies, including the Rupiah, to strengthen.

Global sentiment is also still tinged with uncertainty regarding US tariff policies after President Donald Trump reiterated his commitment to implementing tariffs in his State of the Union address. This stance makes the direction of US trade policy difficult to predict and maintains volatility in the currency market.

From the monetary policy side, comments from the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Alberto Musalem, are considered neutral. He stated that current benchmark interest rates are around a neutral level and are appropriate to balance the risks to the labor market and inflation.

Market players also still see the probability of a 25 basis point interest rate cut at the upcoming Federal Reserve (FOMC) meeting on March 17-18 as relatively small, at around 2%.

The weakening of the dollar ultimately became a positive sentiment for the movement of emerging market currencies, including the Rupiah, so the Rupiah was able to remain in positive territory until the close of trading today.
