US Dollar Strengthens, Jaecoo Keeps Car Prices Steady
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The rupiah’s exchange rate against the United States dollar has continued to come under pressure in recent times. According to Bank Indonesia’s mid-rate on 22 May 2026, the rupiah stood at Rp 17,673 per US dollar. In the banking market, the dollar’s selling rate has touched Rp 17,700.
This condition is feared to affect various sectors of industry, including automotive. The rupiah’s weakness could raise the cost of importing components and fully built units.
Jaecoo Indonesia’s Head of Marketing, Mohammad Ilham Pratama, said management has already prepared for and continues to monitor the evolving economy in Indonesia. ‘In short, from our management, i.e., Jaecoo, we have prepared and continue to monitor the economic conditions in Indonesia. We also have a team that monitors these conditions. So, for now, prices remain unchanged,’ Ilham said in Bogor, West Java, not long ago.
He explained that one model still marketed at a normal price is the Jaecoo J5. The SUV has not yet experienced a price increase.
Ilham did not rule out the possibility of price adjustments if rupiah weakness continues and the economic conditions become more volatile. ‘However, for what lies ahead, of course management has prepared,’ he added.
According to him, Jaecoo cannot yet confirm how long prices can be maintained at the current level.
Currently, Jaecoo has several product lines marketed in Indonesia. The Jaecoo J5 is priced from Rp 309 million, while the Jaecoo J7 is marketed from around Rp 499 million. The Jaecoo J8 is in the vicinity of Rp 719 million for the highest variant.
