The pressure on the rupiah occurred alongside a strengthening of the US dollar in global markets. The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the greenback against six major world currencies, was observed strengthening by 0.10% to 101.126 as of 09:00 WIB.
External sentiment also stemmed from rising tensions in the Middle East. Escalation returned after the United States launched retaliatory strikes against Iran, following reports of attacks on several tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz. This situation has triggered concerns over potential disruptions to global energy supplies. Crude oil prices subsequently moved higher, reigniting worries about inflation and the policy direction of the US central bank, the Federal Reserve.
Domestically, Bank Indonesia previously reported an increase in the nation’s foreign exchange reserves for June 2026. BI recorded Indonesia’s foreign exchange reserve position at the end of June 2026 at US$145.6 billion, a slight increase from the end of May 2026 figure of US$144.9 billion. Despite the increase, the market continues to monitor exchange rate pressures amid high global uncertainty and the need for rupiah stabilisation.
