Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar, now hovering above Rp17,000 per dollar, has entered a stable condition according to Bank Indonesia (BI). BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said that as of 21 April 2026, the rupiah exchange rate stood at Rp17,140 per US dollar, weakening by only 0.87 points compared to the end of March 2026. “The rupiah is stable on 21 April at Rp17,140/US$, or weakening by 0.87 points point-to-point compared to the end of March,” said Perry during the press conference on the results of the April 2026 Board of Governors meeting on Wednesday (22/4/2026). Perry also emphasised that BI has implemented various policies to maintain the current rupiah stability. These stability policies include interventions in the spot market, NDF, and increasingly in DNDF, as well as adjustments to the cash foreign exchange purchase threshold in April 2026. “BI believes the rupiah is stable and strengthening, supported by BI’s commitment, yields, and Indonesia’s good economic prospects,” explained Perry.
