US Dollar Breaches Rp17,000, DPR Summons BI Governor
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Commission XI of the House of Representatives has summoned the board of governors of Bank Indonesia (BI) in a meeting regarding the central bank’s 2025 performance report.
Among those present at the meeting were Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo, Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, Deputy Governor Ricky P Ghozali, and Deputy Governor Thomas Djiwandono.
At the start of the meeting, Chairman of Commission XI DPR Mukhamad Misbakhun stated that this session is important as material for the annual evaluation by the DPR of the performance of BI’s board of governors.
“The quarterly and annual reports submitted are evaluated by the DPR and used as material for the annual performance assessment with BI,” said Misbakhun in the Commission XI DPR meeting room, Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
Misbakhun said that BI’s performance report reflects the execution of BI’s duties and authority in safeguarding the rupiah exchange rate, maintaining the stability of the payment system, and contributing to the stability of the financial system amid the current dynamics of global economic uncertainty.
“However, the rupiah exchange rate was relatively stable last year, and the financial system’s resilience remains strong,” said Misbakhun.
This summoning comes after the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar has faced pressure over the past few days, lingering above the Rp17,000/US$ level.
On this day, the rupiah currency opened trading with a strengthening against the United States dollar (US).
Citing Refinitiv data, at the opening of trading on Wednesday (8/4/2026), the rupiah opened stronger at Rp16,970/US$, or appreciated by 0.70%.
This strengthening occurred after in the previous trading session, on Tuesday (7/4/2026), the rupiah closed sharply weaker at Rp17,090/US$.
On the other hand, the US dollar index (DXY) at 09:00 WIB was observed in the red zone with a weakening of 0.94% to the level of 98.918.
