Washington (ANTARA) - United States forces have diverted 130 ships as part of an ongoing maritime blockade against Iran, US Central Command (CENTCOM) has clarified.

“CENTCOM forces have resumed the blockade of vessels attempting to enter or leave Iranian ports on 14 July under the direction of the Supreme Commander,” CENTCOM wrote on X.

According to CENTCOM, in addition to diverting 130 ships, American forces also deactivated three vessels that refused to comply with orders.

The US also permitted more than 70 ships carrying humanitarian cargo to transit the Strait of Hormuz during the same period.

On 28 February 2026, the US and Israel began launching attacks against several targets in Iran, which were subsequently met with retaliatory strikes by Iran.

In mid-June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding to cease hostilities, but attacks were resumed shortly thereafter. To date, the conflict remains unresolved.

The escalation of the conflict has nearly halted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital supply route for the world’s oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). As a result, fuel prices have increased in most countries.
