US Diplomacy Accompanied by Strikes That Shatter Iran's Trust
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that repeated ceasefire violations by the United States, conflicting messages, and ever-changing demands have damaged diplomatic efforts. “The diplomatic process does not take place in a vacuum,” Baghaei said on Wednesday. “To advance any negotiation or diplomatic process, sufficiently conducive conditions are required for diplomacy to proceed,” he added. Baghaei accused the US of disrupting the diplomatic path through contradictory messages, repeated shifts in stance and demands, and breaches of the ceasefire. “Unfortunately, the United States, through the contradictory messages it has delivered, repeated changes in its positions and demands, and worst of all, repeated ceasefire violations, has damaged the diplomatic process,” he said. Baghaei also accused Israel of hindering diplomacy through repeated ceasefire violations in Lebanon. “Any diplomatic process will be harmed by the use of force and unlawful acts,” he said. Baghaei added that Iran will review the conditions surrounding upcoming negotiations based on the latest developments, though he did not provide further details. Tasnim news agency reported that the Sirik region, Qeshm Island, and Minab were targeted by strikes carried out by US fighter jets. The ministry also noted that Iran accuses Kuwait and Bahrain of involvement in the incident. Oman has become at least the 15th country to be threatened with attack, not ruled out from the possibility of being attacked, or actually attacked by Trump. The IRGC asserted its legitimate right to take retaliatory measures against any ceasefire violation by the US military. US President Donald Trump postponed strikes on Iran to allow room for diplomacy. Military personnel had their Memorial Day leave cancelled amid heightened tensions. When asked to clarify his statement, Trump confirmed he meant “two or three days”, not several weeks. On 28 February, the US and Israel launched a joint strike on a number of targets in Iran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iranian media also assessed Trump’s claim that enriched uranium would be destroyed as baseless. Trump even hinted a deal could be reached within days. However, he stressed Iran must provide an answer to prevent further strikes. The rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar opened weaker in trading on Monday, 11 May 2026.
